Save a Stray For the Holidays Adoption Event
This Los Angeles-wide event will be held at 14 City and County animal care center locations when they will reduce adoption fees, including microchip and spay/neuter surgery fees, for the special program. Hundreds of animals will be available and trained “matchmakers” will be on hand to help visitors find the perfect pet. There are millions of wonderful animals available for adoption from the municipal shelter system each year. Due to tremendous public misconception that these animals are undesirable as only 50% make it out alive, coupled with minimal awareness in regard to shelter locations, these facilities are consistently overcrowded and underfunded. As a result, many centers are forced to put down animals simply for the lack of space. Found Animals will include special gifts for all new adoptees. Anyone who adopts a pet at the event will receive the amazing professional services of the Found Animals staff and volunteers. The organization also will provide crucial materials, such as new pet owner manuals, to make the transition to new surroundings more comfortable for both the pets and their new parents. Save a pet!

In the spirit of the theme of the issue, Beautiful/Decay got a little messy ourselves, using a playfully “messy” approach to our page layouts, including crumpling photos and creating a custom typeface of childhood favorite construction materials: googly eyes, popsicle sticks and puff balls.

Admit it: you’ve loved this person for years and you’d never do anything to hurt them but – and here’s the tricky part – you just don’t know how to tell them eating their signature Beef Wellington is like chewing old shoes. Help is on the way. A major cable network is putting out calls for nominations for a program slated to air early next year. The premise? You nominate your favorite culinary-challenged chef, and the network will send out a celebrity chef to help them make their signature dish, or just their cooking in general, palatable without actually hurting their feelings. The celebrity chef – you’ll know him or her when you see them – will guide your loved one through the entire process from shopping to serving. Are you noticing a lot of secrecy in this post? That’s intentional. The casting director, whom we shall call Casting Director, is eager to keep things under wraps until the show actually goes to air, but if you send in a nomination, you’ll know almost immediately afterward the identity of the network and the name of the program. Six episodes are scheduled so far. “It’s a goodhearted cooking show,” said Casting Director. “Nothing makes the person look terrible.” If your nominee is accepted, shooting will take place sometime in January or February. Ah, but there’s yet another catch. For the first season, the show will only accept nominations from around Los Angeles and Southern California.
